Although these work just like the sidebars you set up in the widgets page, they are not necessarily used as sidebars within the grid. We are just using the term “sidebars” because that is the technology the elements with the grid are based on.

You can drag and drop widgets from the list on the left into the “sidebars” within the grids to build up your page content. There are special widgets in the theme to let you display posts, lists of posts, comments and all of the things that normally appear on the pages of your sites.

Grid areas (Header area, Footer area, …) have been set up to provide the sort of layouts you expect to find on a website. You can rearrange them in any order you want by dragging and dropping them. You can also turn off or “disable” any of the grids you do not want to use.

The names of the grids are just names. There is no reason why you cannot use “Main Area” as your header and could use “Header Area” for some page content or even as the footer.

You can also change the width of the page and you can change the width of the “sidebars” inside the grids (without editing code of the theme). However, the page width of 960 px is pretty standard and what most people want and need. The selection of existing grids will handle most needs. There is a separate tutorial on creating your own grids which can give you more control over the number and width of elements within the grid: http://bizzthemes.com/docs/add-edit-remove-layout-grids/.

The Grids

The best way to understand the grids is to relate them to the live demo for the theme http://bizzthemes.com/demo/hosting-pro/

Layout Hierarchy

The real power of the Builder is that you are not locked into one layout for all page types. But at the same time, all of the pages inherit the settings from the “Site-wide” page unless you have made specific changes on the different page types.

When you look at one of the other tabs, you will see that the widgets inside the grids have a yellow border around them. This lets you see which are the default widgets and which are the ones added specifically to the layout on that page. If you do not want one of the default widgets on another page you can expand the widget and the normal “delete” link will be shown as “disable”. Disabling a widget stops it showing up on that page, but you cannot delete it as there would be no way to restore it if you changed your mind.

If you change the settings of any of the widgets with yellow boarders, these changes will be seen on all pages, because you are actually editing the widget from the “Site-wide” page.

You can add new widgets to any of the grids on the other tabs and they will only show up on the pages of those types.

You can also rearrange the grids vertically and enable and disable the grids so that the arrangement of the page can be different on different types of page.

Note that before a particular page has any custom layout settings, it automatically uses any recent changes on the Site-wide layout. However, once edits have been made changes such as rearranging or enabling/disabling grids on the Site-wide page will no longer show up on the other customised layouts.

Some tabs have an option to have different layouts for different subtypes of archive. For instance, the “Archive” tab has a the base archive page layout, but using the submenu tabs you can change the layout for specific types of archive such as by author, by category, by tab, by date, etc.

The “Single” tab has a base layout, but can then have individual layouts for a multitude of different subtypes of posts. You can have different layouts for each the entry types: Page, Post, Attachment, FAQ, Slider, or Portfolios. But then within each of those you can choose a specific post, page, FAQ, etc and give that individual entry its own specific layout.

The Widgets

There are a large number of widgets. Some widgets replace the standard WordPress widgets of the same name and some provide custom functionality for this particular theme. Note that you should never use the old WordPress Widgets page as this will have no effect when you make changes there.

Archives (enhanced) – An enhanced archives list offering list by alphabetical, daily, monthly, post-by-post, weekly and yearly. Being a widget you can control where and when it is shown. You have control over what is displayed on each post, how many columns, number of posts, pagination and other options but selection of posts is based on the page URL (which will include categories, post ids, authors, etc).

The Home Page

Different people want different things from the home page of their web sites. If you are a blogger the home page is a list of recent articles. If you are using WordPress more like a conventional CMS then you may want a static page as the home page.

You can use this theme in both ways but there are important differences in the way you configure this.

If you want your home page to be your blog, you use the “Home” tab in the Builder to format the home page. If you want to add the home page to the custom menus you need to add a Custom Link item and give it the label you want and a URL for the base address of your site.

If you want a static page as your home page, you need to create two pages, one to act as the home page and optionally another to act as the page to display your blog posts on. Neither of these pages needs to have any content on it, but these work as placeholders for other options.

In the Settings->Reading, the option “Front page displays” with two choices “Your latest posts” which treats the home page as a blog or “A static page” which treats the home page as a static page. You then have to choose the page to be shown on the front page of the site and can also choose the page to display the posts on.

In the Builder (Layouts Engine), you have to go to the “Single” tab, choose “Pages” and then choose the pages created above to set their layouts. The page to show blog posts must include the WordPress Loop widget to function like a normal blog index page.

To help understand what is going on here it helps to know what is going on inside WordPress. Normally on a blog style site, when the URL is just the base address for the site, WordPress sees that there are no parameters for pages or categories or anything else and just displays a list of recent posts by default. This is what WordPress and the Home tab in the Builder consider to be the Home page.

When you change the option in the Reading settings to show a static page and the current URL is the base address of the site, WordPress pretends that the URL actually included the id of the page you chose as your home page. Since a URL with a page is not what WordPress considers to be the home page, then the layout in the Home tab is not used, but the layout attached to that page is.

Theme Structure

custom-sample.folder (rename to’ custom’ on activation) ***

lib_frame.folder (framework files)

lib_theme.folder (only theme-specic files)

index.php

functions.php

comments.php

custom_template.php

style.css

*** edit your theme code through ‘custom’ folder files. Leave all other files intact, otherwise updating your theme will become much harder, when new versions are available.

Builder (Layouts Engine)

How it Works?

Layout engine was designed to replace current custom page templates and extends current widgets adminstration. Think of it as widgets administration, where the whole theme is constructed of sidebar areas, where you may drop your widgets. Also, you may move your sidebars and even put them into hierarchical order.

Template Hierarchy

Template hierarchy used inside Builder extends default WordPress template hierarchy and is used to power grids and widgets hierarchical system. Site-wide tab is on top of hierarchy and is followed by other layout tabs. If you edit your grids or widgets inside parent tab, it will be visible inside all child tabs. Example: Navigation widget added inside Site-wide tab, will be visible on all pages, whereas if you add Navigation widget inside Archive tab, it will be visible on archive pages only. Learn more about WordPress template hierarchy: http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Hierarchy.

Hierarchical system:

Site-wide

Home

Single

Single Post Type

Single Post ID

Archive

Archive Post Type

Taxonomy ID

Search

404

Layout Grids

Move your grids vertically and even disable them if you feel they’re not needed for some pages.

Layout Widgets

Move widgets from Available widgets in your left panel to your right widget ready grids.

Frame Options

Images & Thumbnails

Image & Thumbnails script is pretty advanced, yet very simple to use. What is important here is to Setup Image script correctly by checking all options you would like use when resizing thumbnails. These options don’t apply to Slider images and Front Page icons which have default sizes & alignments already built-in.

Complete SEO Options

BizzThemes is the framework of choice for serious Internet professionals, and efficiency is just one of the many reasons why they consider it indispensable.

The Grids

The best way to understand the grids is to relate them to the live demo for the theme http://bizzthemes.com/demo/law-firm/

Can include HTML.

Twitter Updates (extra) – Fill in twitter account details and number of tweets to show.

WordPress Loop (extra) – This is used to display lists of posts and single posts, pages etc. as in a normal chronological list on a WordPress blog.

SEO was our priority upon development of our themes so most SEO options are already built-in. However, you have more options you may consider in Settings panel – we recommend you to use default ones as they will make the most use of your site.

Translations

If you are familiar with WordPress and the many plugins and themes available for it, you’ve probably come across some strangely named files like .mo, .po, and .pot. This file explains how to take a .po file that is included with this theme and translate it into your native language.

## SUMMARIZED INSTRUCTIONS

Download a gettext file editor like poedit and install it.

Open the English .po file that came with this theme (custom/lang/en_EN.po).

Now go through it and translate all the text one line at a time in the bottom box.

hen ‘File’ => ‘Save as’ to ‘custom/lang/’ folder, where .po file is located. We finally accomplished that and are proud to give you full access to the most powerful widget of them all – WordPress Loop. This widget is part of the new framework and pulls the content of you current position on a website. For instance, when you are on About page, content from about page is displayed, if you’re on Contact page, content from contact page is pulled … and so on …

Works with 7.0+ theme framework

Edit your WordPress Loop widget content programatically:

Open custom/custom_functions.php

Define your custom PHP class:

    $my_custom_loop = new my_loops;

    class my_loops extends bizz_custom_loop {
function home() { // edit home() content
            echo "Hello world!";
        }
    }

List of available positions:

front
— Front page of your site. Note: front page display must be set to a static page inside WordPress for this to have effect.

page
— Every page of your site except the front page if one is enabled.

home
— Your home page or, if a front page is enabled, your blog’s home page.

single
— All posts (often confusingly referred to as “single-entry pages”).

attachment
— Individual pages for post attachments (usually images).

category
— Category archive pages.

tax
— Taxonomy archive pages.

tag
— Tag archive pages.

day
— Daily archive pages.

month
— Monthly archive pages.

year
— Yearly archive pages.

author
— Author archive pages.

archive
— Generic archive pages; this loop is the default for category, tax, tag, day, month, year, author, and search pages.

search
— Search results pages. Note: This loop should also account for searches that do not return any results.

fourohfour
— 404 pages.

nothing
— This loop will run if there is nothing in the database to display.

Note: This feature would not be possible without Thesis theme and their GPL license, so thumbs up for their big contribution to the WordPress community.
